It's Thanksgiving eve and I'm wrapping up the day watching Star Wars with a friend. The entire day has been wonderfully spent with friends, making food, eating, talking, laughing. We're all children of the 80s so our conversation is dotted with quotes from our favorite movies and lines from songs. One we keep repeating is "I want my $2!" It's been a blissful day of great bonding and connection.
It's my friends that have made life worth living this past year. I've allowed myself to open up to them more than ever - creating stronger connections. This has been important in healing the losses I sustained this past year. I have more friends now than ever in my life. I love them like family and I make sure to tell them often.
It reminds me of a poem I found in my mom's important papers. Life is to short to wait to tell those you love, that you love them.
The Time is Now
If you are going to love me
Love me now, while I can know
The sweet and tender feelings
Which from true affections flow
Love me while I am living
Don't wait until I am gone
And then have it chiseled in marble
Sweet words on ice-cold stone
If you have tender thoughts of me
Please tell me now
If you wait until I am sleeping
Never to awaken
There will be death between us
And I won't hear you then
So if you love me even a little bit
Let me know it while I am living
So I can know and treasure it.
- Unknown, found in my mom's important papers

I like this poem. Makes much more sense to offer words now to those we know than to proffer remembrances of loved ones at a funeral. Just yesterday, I learned that an acquaintance passed away the day before. He was "only 55" years old, same age as me. Death is unpredictable; 'tis much better to talk now than to regret later.

If I comprehend this appropriately, the tax payers are even subsidizing cell phones for welfare recipients. I used to be elevated within a house devoid of a phone and we did just great. They have to cease all added benefits and make those people living on welfare reapply and identify the true have to have.
