Speaking Alert: Web 2.0 Expo

I've been added as a last minute speaker for Web2.0 Expo in San Francisco next Wednesday, March 30 at 1:15pm. I will be sharing my research results on Trends Shaping the Future of Transactions. 

What does the future of transactions look like? Researcher Heather Schlegel has fresh data on the future of currency and alternate transactions. In this session, she’ll share her findings, including current behaviors around transactions, emerging payment options and three invisible cultural trends that will shape our transactions. Among the critical questions she’ll answer:

Monday, Feb 28th, I had the great opportunity to share a first look at the results of my Future of Transactions Research at the Future of Money Conference. My presentation shared the results of my research (survey and individual interviews) providing the answers to:

• What are people using today to make transactions on and offline?
• How are people using Alternate Currencies (game, reward/frequent flyer miles, wuffie)?
• How people are using mobile payment technologies?
• How are people participating in alternate economies (barter, gift, favor, etc)?
• What are the most frequent methods of transactions used?
• What payment options are the most controversal?
• Why time banks may become important?
• Introduction of Three Invisible Trends that I believe will have a bigger impact on the Future of Transactions than the technology innovations.
• Future Visions: How these trends could manifest in the future?
• What you can do with this information today.

San Francisco like Old Times

Farley's is always the last place I step on San Francisco ground before I leave the city - and yesterday was no different. It's a nod to my first step in San Francisco last century. 

As I got on 280 and sped south, I spied the Sutro tower and remembered it as I saw it each morning. My mind was thinking about the weekend. A woven braid reflecting my various selves. Dinner at a notorious restaurant, when in a previous life, an event occurred that catalyzed the falling of dominoes that ended in Los Angeles. The oak trees on 280. A favorite viewpoint and rest stop. Walking up the stairs of a San Francisco Victorian, which was like stepping into another century - a familiar one from my childhood. The booming devo-esque music from a San Jose club. Japanese. Conference rooms, panels, presentations and lots of really interesting people. Names I knew, now met. Faces I've met, meeting again. Stepping on the stage, microphone in hand, the fear of sharing something new, paradigm shifting dissolving as I spoke. Calling for collaboration, for mutual positive exploration. Satisfied with the results. Opening possibilities.

My favorite part was spent in a Western styled Victorian parlor getting to know two people better. Sharing books and ideas.  Cut from the same cloth. The uncertainty of the unknown provided nothing but magical possibilities. Everything worked out wonderfully. Thank you to all.
