Homeless receive presents in form of clothes/etc on Xmas from Companies donating them. Company feels good about helping the homeless.
Homeless person sells item on the street to random person. Person buys present from homeless for cents on the dollar. Person gets a deal on the item. Homeless person buys hard drugs.
Everyone feels good.
Or do they?
or watch this video, after our humble narrator smokes crack (and shoots up) for the first time. (Really a must watch)
Wow! What a profound commentary on the way it really is! Only I never thought about it in those direct terms of 'supply and demand' that you present.

On the street he spied my face I heard him hail
In our plot of frozen space he told his tale
Poor man, he showed his hand
So righteous was his need
And me so wise I bought his prize
For chicken feed
Newfound cash soon begs to smash a state of mind
Close inspection fast revealed his favorite kind
Poor kid, he overdid
Embraced the spreading haze
And while he sighed his body died
In fifteen ways
