About 10 years ago I randomly walked into an Aikido class at the Berkeley Y. I stuck around for several years - enough to make fourth Kyu and get my blue belt. I had black hair at that last test. I had planned to get my black belt in 2001, but I stopped practicing and priorities put aikido at the bottom of the list. Then I moved to LA and lost touch with my dojo.
Last fall I started getting a hankering to practice again. I looked around for a dojo or sword class, but didn't find one I liked. Then I found out an old friend and fellow student, lived in LA, was now a black belt _and_ teaching. Andrew was one of my favorite practice partners years ago, so when I found out he was teaching less than a mile from my house, I was so back on the mat.
Except we didn't have many mats. That's changing tonight. You see, when I was up in the Bay Area, I picked up some old Shusekai mats. These are most likely the same ones I practiced on 10 years ago. And now they're here in our dojo in Hollywood.
I'm so excited to doing aikido again - especially shusekai aikido. Perhaps you'd like to join me? Please do, although my favorite applications of aikido are off the mat.
